Background of the study
This study assesses the quality control mechanisms employed in Hausa language news broadcasting in Kano. Hausa news broadcasters play a pivotal role in informing the public and shaping opinions, making accurate translation a critical element in delivering reliable information (Sani, 2023). As news content is rapidly translated for real-time dissemination, quality control becomes a challenging yet essential task. The study reviews existing protocols for translation, including editorial oversight, proofreading processes, and automated quality checks. It investigates the integration of both human expertise and digital tools in ensuring that news content maintains linguistic precision, cultural relevance, and factual accuracy. Interviews with translators, editors, and media managers, coupled with content analysis of broadcast segments, provide comprehensive data on the current state of translation quality. The findings will identify gaps in current quality control measures and suggest improvements to enhance the reliability of Hausa news broadcasting in Kano.
Statement of the problem
Despite the critical role of accurate translation in news broadcasting, quality control in Hausa language media in Kano faces persistent challenges. Inconsistencies in translation, errors in terminology, and lapses in editorial oversight have been noted, leading to potential misinformation and reduced public trust (Sani, 2023). The rapid pace of news production further complicates quality control efforts, as manual review processes struggle to keep up with digital workflows. This study aims to pinpoint these deficiencies and assess how current quality control measures impact the overall accuracy and credibility of Hausa news broadcasts.
Objectives of the study:
To evaluate current quality control practices in Hausa news translation.
To identify key errors and challenges affecting translation accuracy.
To recommend improvements for standardizing quality control.
Research questions:
What quality control measures are currently in place for Hausa news translation?
What errors most commonly occur in these translations?
How can quality control processes be improved?
Significance of the study
This study is significant as it examines the quality control of Hausa news translations, aiming to enhance accuracy and public trust in media outputs. The findings will benefit media organizations, translators, and policymakers in Kano by informing best practices for reliable news broadcasting (Sani, 2023).
Scope and limitations of the study:
The study is limited to Hausa language news broadcasts in Kano, focusing on quality control measures and translator interviews.
